Spending time outdoors is one of the favorite summertime activities. It is the perfect way to do some physical activities. Studies have suggested that people are born as nature lovers and stress can be reduced when exposed to the outdoors. Camping has a lot of benefits to the wellbeing of a person in more ways than one. But most people find it hard to eat healthy food during a camping trip.
Whether you are backpacking alone or camping with your family, you should try to eat healthy food in the camp. It might be challenging but it can be done with proper planning. When people think of camping, they think of hamburgers, hot dogs, s’mores and chips. They are full of sugar, sodium, fat and preservatives. These foods can’t provide the right nutrients needed to go on a long hike or a canoe ride on the lake.
Before going on a camping trip, it is best to first create a healthy menu to make sure that you and your family are getting the right nutrients to have enough energy for the trip. If you are taking the car to the camping site, then you can bring a cooler to make it easier to store vegetables, fruits and other food that needs to be refrigerated.
Be sure to pack produce so that they don’t bruise. These include oranges, berries, carrots, celery, peppers, sugar snap peas, grapes, and apples.
When backpacking alone, ensure that you take into account the weight of the food. Even without a cooler, there are some healthy options to bring during the camping trip. For breakfast, you can have pre-cooked egg with mixed vegetables, cheese and some bacon.
Lunch can be salad or healthy sandwiches. For dinner, you can have tuna with salad or tin foil dinners. You can also opt for veggie burgers.
