Two time national champion Ian Casale opened a martial arts school in Fallston a year ago. He said that it was not an easy task. The 21 year old black belt said that he knew he was good in the ring but he didn’t know that he would also be a good teacher.
Casale opened the American Karate martial arts school last year and he teaches the physical and mental fundamentals every Monday and Thursday. His students are aged between 7 and 16 years old.
Casale said that he was nervous when he opened the studio. He wasn’t sure if the students he taught before would enroll in the new studio. He also wasn’t sure if he was going to generate new students.
The martial arts school joined the Battle of Baltimore Martial Arts World Championships. They managed to get various awards, which is not bad for a school that is appearing for the first time in the yearly event. His students describe Casale as a great teacher.
It was the first time Casale is running a martial arts school but he already has a teaching experience before. He taught martial arts after earning his black belt while he was still in high school. He also teaches a class at Harford Community College at present.
He said that before his students competed in the tournament, he trained their bodies and minds to be ready for it. That’s the reason why his students were prepared and won their fights. Casale knows the feeling of being a champion. He won titles at the Battle of Baltimore in 2009 and 2010.
Acting as an adviser for the school is Master John Burdyck, who was once Casale’s instructor. Casale was just five years old when he started learning martial arts from Burdyck, who is the organizer of the Battle of Baltimore.
