One of the nightmares that parents could face is the abduction of their children. This could happen even in relatively safe neighborhoods. You’ll never know when unscrupulous people will just pull up and get your child.
There is a way to help your children be prepared to avoid abductions. Jason Wegener of Tiger rock Martial Arts School in Monroe has been teaching kids self-defense that he has perfected while playing games with his own son.
He said that he designed the Stranger Game to help children be aware of the dangers of talking to strangers and how to avoid being kidnapped. At the end of the game, he rewards the students with candy.
Wegener starts with designating a safe spot and teaches them one of the easiest moves that everyone know and that is to sit down. He said that sitting down makes it harder for people to just grab a child. The child can also lean backwards to make it even harder.
Then the children will start the stranger siren by shouting the word stranger repeatedly. While shouting, the child will also start kicking the legs as hard as one can. Once the grab is released, the child will run to the designated safe spot. Then the child will find someone they know and tell them about what had happened.
The instructors at Tiger Rock also teach the children how to get away when a person grabs them from behind and save a friend who is being taken away. Aside from helping prevent abductions, the lessons also taught children about discipline. The students are well-mannered and disciplined.
Wegener said that the refusal to move is the main principle of preventing abduction from taking place. The longer the child stays in the spot, the better the chances that the abductions will just go away.
