One of the most popular weapons used by Ninjas is considered to be nunchucks. They are used in a lot of martial arts systems. Originally, nunchucks were used by Japanese peasants in the form of rice harvesters but later they managed to find out its potential as a self-defense weapon. Today, nunchucks are represented by two sticks that are connected with a chain or a rope. But, there are different materials that can be used to make nunchucks and most of them are made of wood, metal and plastic. The weight of nunchucks is not defined and it can reach 20 ounces.
The weight of nunchucks influences the use of them as lighter nunchucks provide more control over a situation while heavy nunchucks will cause a lot more damage. In addition, nunchucks can have a different length of a rope or a chane and it can vary from 2 to 25 centimeters. Ninjas that want to be effective and fast usually choose nunchucks with a short rope. 
Besides, nunchucks with a shorter rope will decrease the chances to hit yourself. There are Japanese and Chinese nunchucks. Japanese nunchucks usually have an octagonal shape while Chinese are lighter and shorter which makes them a perfect weapon to train your new skills.
But, in some states, nunchucks are recognized to be weapons and those ones who sell, import or manufacture them will be subject to prosecution. As a result, if anyone is caught while selling, importing or manufacturing nunchucks may get a penalty of imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year or in the state prison. But it does not mean that there are no martial arts schools there as it is permitted to train and possess nunchucks if, for example, a school has a license to teach the art of self-defense to grown-ups and children.
