Last June 23, four students from the AKF Martial Arts Academy of Neillsville tested in Kyukido. They have successfully passed the test and promoted to the next level by showing their knowledge of martial arts techniques and terminology.
The students were required to submit a written application that shows their mental knowledge and perform physical requirements that show the required skills to get to the next level. During the test, the students need to show techniques from previous tests as well as show the skills for the next belt. Repetition is one method of ensuring students remember the skills. Black belts took their pretest and will complete their promotion on November 8.
AKF Martial Arts played host to a seminar and test in Judo last July 12. They had Master Lloyd Holden, who holds a fourth degree black belt in Judo, as guest instructor and helped by Niki Holden, a first dan black belt in Judo. Both instructors come from Janesville AKF. During the seminar, four students out of the ten attendees tested for new ranks.
Linda Imler, owner and instructor of AKF Martial Arts Academy of Neillsville, went to Kyukido Kamp last July 18 to 20. The seminars were taught by Masters of the American Kyukido Federation. Imler took the promotion test to fifth degree black belt, which is also known as masters level. She demonstrated weapons forms and empty hand forms before a board made of masters who hold higher degree black belts than her.
Imler has been practicing Kyukido for 22 years. During her promotion test, she was also required to participate in a question and answer portion before the same board. The testing also includes a demonstration at the upcoming AKF Tournament. Finally, Imler has to attend the AKF Black Belt event on November 8 at the Kalahari Resort to be able to get her promotion.
