Fitness buffs can try a new activity at the UFC Gym Mesa, which is located at the corner of East Broadway and South Ellsworth roads. Fans of mixed martial arts can recognize the brand right away and they know what to expect when they step into the gym.
Tisha Byers, assistant manager of the UFC Gym Mesa, said that they train differently. UFC has partnered with New Evolution Ventures as it tries to expand its brand to make MMA training accessible to the public. The gym used to be known as LA Boxing, until it was rebranded as UFC Gym Mesa.
Ty Upshur, one of the trainers at the gym, said that the UFC Gym Mesa has a family atmosphere. It is a place where parents and their kids can work out. Not only that, the gym has already managed to produce professional fighters.
Beginners can pick from kickboxing, MMA, or boxing. Advanced students can be trained in all three, as well as Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The gym also offers training for kids, which are scaled versions of the classes to cater to younger students.
UFC Gym Mesa has a trademark class called The Workout, which promises to help a person burn 800 to 1,000 calories in an hour. There are private coaching services, as well as instructor led classes.
There are various classes in UFC Gym Mesa, from entry level to the pros. It depends on the personal trainer, as well as the goals of the client. The entry level exercises are scaled down to accommodate the fitness level of the students.
UFC Gym Mesa is just one of the three UFC Gyms found in the Valley. The other two locations are Ahwatukee and Glendale. Upshur said that the UFC is focused on providing the right trainer for each student.
